Mount Carleton Star Party

Come join members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada for our annual star party at the Mount Carleton Provincial Park, a Designated Dark Sky Preserve with pristine dark skies!
Our activities will be held at the Armstrong campground, around site 44 (look for the telescopes).
Several telescopes will be set-up on Friday and Saturday nights, to allow the public to view the wonders of the night sky. Weather permitting, we’ll be able to see various star clusters, galaxies, and nebulae.
Preceding the evening observation sessions, there will be a presentation at the kitchen shelter near site 44, where you can learn about the night sky wonders that can be observed that evening.
During Saturday afternoon, drop by to take a close-up view of the sun through our safe solar-filtered telescopes. Bring along your telescope for a free set and tuning. If you need instructions on operation, there will be amateur astronomers on hand to guide you through the use and set-up of your telescope. One of our astrophotographers will be there to show you how to take pictures of the Milky Way with your camera, and to answer any questions related to photographing the night sky. There will even be instructions on using your smart phone to snap pics through your telescope.
For Visitors
The star party activities are open to the public, however, you must book your own campsite by calling 1-800-561-0123, or by reserving online. If you’re not camping overnight, you must still pay the park entrance fee and notify the staff that you’re there to attend the star party.

Bring your telescope for a free set and tuning. Learn about astrophotography.

Remote Location
Due to the remote location of Mount Carleton Provincial Park, there is no cell phone reception, internet, or electrical hookups. Also be aware that the park accepts cash only for payment. Please ensure that you have sufficient cash on you. Remember to fill-up on gas before taking the secondary road to the park.
Keep in mind that the remote nature of the park is why it has such fantastically dark skies!
Late Arrivals
From the old Mount Carleton website:
Mount Carleton does not have consistent cellular service. The park gates are closed at 8 p.m. If you plan on arriving past 8 p.m., please notify (by landline if within 45 km) before 8 p.m. to advise park staff of your estimated time of arrival. The park staff will do their best to accommodate late arrivals with reservations only between 8 and 11 p.m., if you call to let them know in advance. The park cannot receive payments after 8 p.m.

Venue
Gala des étoiles du Mont-Carleton
Venez joindre les membres de la Société Royale de l’Astronomie du Canada pour notre gala des étoiles au Parc provincial Mont-Carleton. Plusieurs télescopes seront en place les vendredi et samedi soirs pour permettre le public d’observer les merveilles du ciel nocturne. Si la météo le permet, on pourra des amas d’étoiles, des galaxies, et des nébuleuses.
Pendant le samedi après-midi, venez voir notre soleil tout agrandi avec nos télescopes solaires spécialement filtrés. Si vous avez besoin de l’aide avec votre télescope, il y aura des astronomes amateurs qui pourront vous assister le samedi après-midi au champ d’observation.
Le site d’observation sera près du site #44, dans le terrain de camping Armstrong. Précédant les sessions d’observation nocturnes, il y aura une présentation au théâtre en plein air, où vous pourrez apprendre à propos des merveilles célestes qui seront observables pendant la soirée.
Pour les visiteurs
Les activités du gala sont gratuites et ouvertes au public, cependant, vous devez réserver votre site en téléphonant 1-800-561-0123, ou bien en réservant en-ligne. Si vous ne faites pas de camping, vous devez quand même payer les frais d’entrée et avertir le personnel du parc que vous venez pour participer au gala des étoiles.

Venez voir de près l’étoile la plus proche de nous: notre soleil (si la météo le permet).
13h à 15h – Assistance pour télescopes et astrophotographie
Emportez votre télescope pour le l’aide avec ajustements et utilisation. Apprenez sur l’astrophotographie.
20h à 21h – Présentation “What’s Up?” (en anglais)

Endroit isolé
Du à l’isolement du Parc provincial Mont-Carleton, il n’y a pas de service cellulaire, internet, ou de l’électricité. Le parc accepte seulement l’argent comptant pour les paiements. Veuillez vous assurer que vous avez suffisamment d’argent comptant sur vous. N’oubliez-pas de faire le plein d’essence avant de prendre l’autoroute secondaire qui mène au parc.
Prenez consolation que c’est l’isolement du parc qui donne de si beaux ciels obscures!
Arrivée en retard
D’après l’ancien site web du parc Mont-Carleton:
Les barrières du parc provincial Mont-Carleton ferment tous les soirs à 20 h et le parc ne peut recevoir de paiement après cette heure. Si vous pensez arriver plus tard, veuillez informer le personnel du parc (avant 20 h) de l’heure prévue de votre arrivée. Le personnel fera tout son possible pour attendre à l’entrée du parc, entre 20 h et 23 h, les voyageurs ayant déjà une réservation pour leur donner accès au parc. Comme le service cellulaire n’est pas constant dans un rayon de 45 km du parc, n’attendez pas d’être trop près avant de téléphoner, ou utilisez une ligne terrestre.
